Favorite Quote:“...children have the resilience to outlive their sufferings, if given a chance.”
― Ishmael BeahA Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier

What Made Me Love This Book:  The story begins in Sierra Lyon, West Africa in the 1990's; It is the journey of Beah as a child soldier during harsh political times when issues between corrupted governments and rebel groups were predominant.

After his village gets attacked by one of the rebel groups, Ishmael finds himself running from a war that has taken everything from him, after endless days of hiding and running he comes to a point where his only option is to join the war.

He shares his story, how he learned to forgive himself and how he used his harsh pass to make a change. It's a hard story but a very important one, it shows a type of "reality" that we thankfully, will most likely never have to experience. If you are interested in humanitarian issues I would definitely recommend adding this one to your "to be read" list.
